Tyler Adams undergoes Leeds United medical on Tuesday as he misses RB Leipzig training

Leeds United are on the verge of signing Tyler Adams from RB Leipzig with the midfielder undergoing his medical with the Yorkshire club, according to James Benge.

The CBS journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (5 July) that Adams, 23, is having his medical on the very same day.

Benge added that the deal is “coming together very nicely”.

Deal all but done

Earlier on Tuesday, Sky Sports Germany journalist Philipp Hinz reported live from an RB Leipzig training session that Adams wasn’t present.

Hinz, who shared footage of the Leipzig players getting ready to be put under their paces in pre-season training, added that Leeds are finalising a deal for the American international.

Is this as strong a hint we can get that Benge’s update is correct and Adams is actually elsewhere finishing up his move to Elland Road?

If that’s the case, we’ll reserve our judgement on Adams.

There are plenty of good and not-so-good things to say about the former New York Red Bulls midfielder, who’s played for Jesse Marsch both in the MLS and the German Bundesliga.

However, he’s a young and versatile holding midfielder who is bound to have been extensively looked at by director of football Victor Orta.

Red Bull and their clubs also have a knack of digging up top young talent so Adams won’t have been at two of their clubs if there wasn’t something about him.

His ability to play at right-back could come in handy at points if Rasmus Kristensen needs a rest or is injured before Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas return from their injury issues.

But overall, we’re not excited by this signing.

We should be doing better with the money we now have available from Kalvin Phillips’ move to Manchester City.

In other Leeds United news, another player jetted into the UK on Monday night ahead of signing permanently for the Whites.
