Tyler Adams exit news lands with Chelsea actively aiming to sign Leeds United midfielder

Chelsea are actively working on a deal to sign Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams with talks over personal terms underway, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer news specialist reported from his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (9 August) that the Blues are aiming to reach a deal for the USMNT captain as they aim to bolster their midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.

Adams has a relegation release clause in his contract [The Athletic, 28 July], which means he is available for a fee of around £20m and Mauricio Pochettinho’s side are aiming to be the ones to secure his services ahead of plenty of Premier League competitors.

Explaining the status of a potential deal, Romano tweeted: “Understand Chelsea are now actively working on Tyler Adams deal — talks ongoing between clubs and personal terms being discussed.

“Again, not linked with Caicedo. Separate deal as Moisés insists since Sunday: he didn’t play as he wants to leave and join Chelsea.”

Another target needed

For Leeds, they can add another midfielder to their shopping list this summer as they bid for a return to the Premier League it looks certain that Adams will be departing Elland Road as recently what Chelsea want, is what Chelsea get in the transfer market.

Adams was one of the bright sparks in an otherwise dingy season for the Whites last season and would have been an excellent tool for Leeds to have at their disposal upon their return to the second tier this season.

Leeds United

But the 24-year-old was always likely to depart following relegation and unlike a number of his other outgoing teammates a permanent deal at least gives Daniel Farke some money to reinvest, and the former Norwich boss will have three more weeks to do so before the window slams shut.

Rangers’ Glen Kamara is a reported target as suggested by the Daily Mail and would be an excellent fit especially now that he is out of favour at Ibrox with both the player and the club working together in an attempt to let him move elsewhere.

It’s certainly going to be a busy end to August at Elland Road.
