Tyler Adams development on Thursday at Thorp Arch as Leeds United amid exit twist
Tyler Adams trained with Leeds United at Thorp Arch on Thursday morning (17 August) amid Bournemouth’s activation of his release clause, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist claimed (17 August) that while Leeds’ position regarding Adams’ move to Bournemouth is unchanged, the 24-year-old has not shown signs of forcing a move as he was training at the club.
The Athletic reported (17 August) that Leeds maintain that the Cherries did not lodge their bid in time before his release clause expired, while Adams himself has not agreed personal terms with the south coast side.
Long way to go?
While Adams is continuing his journey back to fitness, both Leeds and Bournemouth have a lot to sort out.
The clubs seemingly do not agree on the specifics of Bournemouth’s bit for the USMNT star, but The Athletic state that their bid was submitted on Monday (14 August) before the clause expired.
Andoni Iraola’s side has more hurdles after they agree with Leeds. Adams was seemingly locked in to move to Chelsea but as the Daily Mail reported (12 August), the Blues pulled out of the deal after activating the release clause over fears regarding his injury.
Adams is set to return to fitness after the September international break, so prospective clubs would not have to wait too long to utilise the American. But since the expiration of his release clause, his best shot of a Premier League return is a move to the seaside.

As Smyth notes, Adams’ own position on the matter is key here. His presence at Thorp Arch does not suggest an urgency to leave the club. He will likely be feeling quite disappointed that his Chelsea move did not transpire.
While Mauricio Pochettino’s side has a lot of question marks around it at the moment, a move to one of the world’s biggest clubs with such a manager would be too hard to refuse from the Championship. Bournemouth perhaps feels like a step down on what the former RB Leipzig star could have had in West London.
Now his release clause is gone, the hope of a move to a Chelsea-level club had dwindled. If Leeds’ steadfast negotiation strategy with the likes of Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra is anything to go by, then Adams may have a long way to go yet.
In other Leeds United news, unfavoured former Whites star Weston McKennie has shared his reaction to Elland Road’s latest move.
