Tyler Adams completes first stage of Chelsea medical as Leeds Untied exit update emerges – Fabrizio Romano

Tyler Adams undertook the first part of his Chelsea medical on Wednesday (9 August) and is set to be completed today ahead of his move from Leeds United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano tweeted (10 August) that his deal with Chelsea is “done and sealed” after Mauricio Pochettino’s side activated his £20million relegation release clause.

The USMNT star is set to return to the Premier League following Leeds’ relegation but will not be ready to play until September following a hamstring injury.

Inevitable goodbye

Adams becomes the latest in a long line of Leeds United departures.

Elland Road has waved goodbye to some recent stars, including Rodrigo, Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson. Willy Gnonto’s decision to refuse to play for the club, as reported by Sky Sports (10 August), added more fuel to the fire for Leeds fans before the Adams news.

Elsewhere, while an extra £20million is good for the club, Adams’ value is certainly above this considering his standout season in an otherwise poor Leeds campaign.

His injury puts a few question marks over the deal. The Athletic reported (28 March) that the American would have to undergo surgery on his hamstring which has ruled him out until September.

Leeds United

This meant he missed Leeds’ final stretch of the Premier League campaign, with many speculating that the Whites would have had a much better chance of survival if the former RB Leipzig man could have his impact.

However, his move to Chelsea looks almost set in stone. The Blues are getting a great bargain for the 24-year-old who played 24 games last season in his Premier League debut. He has also become a UMNT regular, picking up 36 appearances and a CONCACAF Nations League trophy in 2020.

Leeds will certainly miss having Adams in the squad, but it is doubtful that Daniel Farke would have considered him in his plans for this season considering how likely his departure looked.

After just one season at Elland Road, Adams has found his way to the upper levels of the Premier League.

In other Leeds United news, Everton are set to reignite their interest in an Elland Road star.
