Tottenham want to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer, according to a report by The Telegraph.

Spurs secured a fourth place finish on the final day of the season with a 5-0 win over Norwich, and are now looking to bolster their squad to compete in the Champions League next season.

Now according to a new report Antonio Conte is keen to bring in a raft of new players and Phillips is one of several players on a shortlist for the club to target.

Phillips has been linked with an exit from Elland Road for months now, as he enters the final 12 months of the contract but after securing their Premier League status for another year a new deal is expected to be on the table.

The player himself has admitted that he wants to stay at the club having grown up as a Leeds fan, but relegation may have forced their hand due to the financial hit they would have been taking.

Interest

There has been talk of Phillips leaving Elland Road for years, but it’s never been as intense as it was in the final weeks of the season when the club’s future was up in the air.

A fee of between £50-60m was touted and there has reportedly been interest from Manchester United [MEN], Aston Villa and Newcastle too to get a deal done.

But the overriding emotion of the whole saga has been that if Leeds stay in the Premier League then he will stay, so Spurs’ interest seems more hopeful than anything else.

If he was to leave the club though Spurs would surely have a great shot ahead of the other clubs, with Champions League football a huge factor and something nobody else is offering him.

Fingers crossed that he will keep his word and stay put, but there has to be an admission that a big move is deserved and nobody would begrudge him that.
