Tottenham to step on Leeds United turf in new transfer mission for Chris Perkins due to Brexit

Tottenham look set to invade Leeds United territory by hiring a scout to specifically source young talent from Yorkshire, according to iNews.

The news outlet claims that Spurs’ head of emerging talent Chris Perkins is set to work closely alongside a new scout, who’ll eye up youngsters “on the sizeable patch that incorporates football hotbeds Merseyside, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield”.

Spurs are reportedly conducting interviews and it is understood that the London club’s move is a result of Brexit as there’s now increased importance on signing young players within the UK.

Yet another Brexit drawback

While the UK’s decision to withdraw from the EU has had a profound impact on the lives of many people, it’s also having an impact on football.

Some might feel as though the increased desire to sign young English players is better, it does mean that the richer and more powerful clubs will be able to hoover up all the talent and hoard it for themselves.

Leeds have a massive pull so they should be able to stand up to Tottenham’s antics but what about clubs like Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, who usually bring through some decent young players?

It’s now much harder for under-20 talent to be brought in from overseas and now, EU nationality players have to earn GBPE points for a work permit in the UK.

It’s no shock that teams like Spurs, who have money to burn, are sending scouts across the country and we wouldn’t be surprised if Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have scouts in London.

Leeds should, too.
