‘Time is ticking’ – Phil Hay shares what’s next for Leeds after Cuisance fails medical

Leeds United will look to find an alternative to Michael Cuisance after the Bayern Munich midfielder’s move to Elland Road hit the skids, according to Phil Hay.

Reporting with David Ornstein on The Athletic website on Thursday night, Hay said that Cuisance, 21, failed a medical with Leeds after a £20million deal was agreed between the Premier League club and Bayern.

Hay and Ornstein also looked at what Leeds will look to do next now that there is “no chance” of Cuisance being signed.

The Whites are not expected to spend big amounts of money but they will look at other targets.

“They have options and they will look at alternatives but time is ticking towards the deadline,” wrote Hay.

“What they won’t do is throw money at someone else if no-one out there fits Bielsa’s bill at the right price.

“More options in the centre of midfield would be welcome but as the club have seen before, there is no point in recruiting anyone who Bielsa isn’t sold on. And his requirements are exacting.”

This is not at all ideal for Leeds but this is a warning about what can happen when you leave your business too late in the transfer window.

Leeds will not be able to sign any players from outside of England after Monday so there’s going to be a race against time to sign an alternative for Cuisance.

The Whites have been linked with a number of central midfielders over the last few weeks with Rodrigo De Paul one of the strongest links.

De Paul, at one point, declared his interest in joining Leeds on Twitter but it was been widely reported that Udinese are almost impossible to deal with.

Other central midfielders who’ve been reportedly on Leeds’ radar are Toulouse’s Kouadio Manu Kone [Mohamed Bouhafsi] and Lazio’s Luis Alberto [Il Messaggero].

Will Leeds make a move for one of those in the coming days? Or is someone completely out of the blue set to head to Elland Road?

We’ll have to wait and see.
