Three playmakers Leeds could target after Facundo Buonanotte transfer falls through
Leeds United have had their pursuit of Facundo Buonanotte hijacked by Chelsea.
Buonanotte seemed destined to become a Leeds player until Chelsea made a last-minute approach for the young Argentine playmaker.
It’s a huge blow for Leeds, who need some creative spark in attack. Barring another last-minute hitch, Buonanotte looks set to sign for Chelsea instead.
Below, MOT Leeds News explores three playmakers that Leeds could target instead.

Emiliano Buendia back on Leeds’ radar
Emiliano Buendia has emerged as a potential target for Leeds now that they have missed out on Buonanotte.
Buendia, who is also Argentinian, has fallen out of favour at Aston Villa. He was linked with a move to Leeds last season, but ended up being sent on loan to Bayer Leverkusen instead. Now, the Villans are ready to sell him at a suitable price.
He signed for Villa from Norwich for £33million in 2021, but Leeds could potentially get him for less than that.

Bilal El Khannouss still an option
Bilal El Khannouss was one of the only Leicester players to emerge from last season with any credit.
The 21-year-old signed for Leicester from Genk last summer and immediately looked at ease in the Premier League despite the struggles of his teammates.
- El Khannouss joined Leicester for £21million.
- The attacking midfielder had a £22.5m release clause at the King Power Stadium.
- The 21-year-old scored two goals and provided three assists in the Premier League last season.
Leeds and Crystal Palace have both shown interest in El Khannouss, but the Whites could launch a bid now they’ve missed out on Buonanotte.

Gustavo Hamer could be wise choice
Gustavo Hamer has never played in the Premier League, but he tore up the Championship for Sheffield United last season.
The Brazilian scored 10 goals and provided eight assists for the Blades, and won the ‘Championship Player of the Season’ award.
Sheffield United has fallen off a cliff this season, sacking their manager and losing all four of their league games, so it’s likely Hamer would welcome an escape route.
Various media sources suggest that Leeds are closing in on a deal for Hamer, and it would be interesting to see if he could replicate last season’s form in the Premier League.
