This is why Leeds United opted against signing Manor Solomon in summer window

Manor Solomon was linked relentlessly with a move to Leeds United in the summer.

Leeds have improved significantly over the last few weeks, but prior to that, there were some major concerns about the way they had adapted to the Premier League.

Many of those were in regard to the attacking woes at Leeds, which constantly brought up the debate as to whether the Whites did enough to improve that aspect of the team in the summer window.

Solomon was a target for Leeds throughout that period, with the reason behind a transfer not coming to fruition now revealed by Adam Pope.

Leeds had concerns over Manor Solomon

Solomon was outstanding for Leeds in the Championship, and once the Whites achieved promotion, it seemed like a no-brainer to bring him back to Elland Road.

The 26-year-old was lauded on a weekly basis, including against Bristol City when Solomon registered an assist for Leeds.

BBC pundit Steve Wilson praised the “magnificent” play from the Tottenham loanee, and he wasn’t the only one to do so throughout the campaign.

However, that feeling changed quite quickly when it became evident that the Whites were looking to seal far more ambitious targets.

Noah Okafor made the move to Leeds United, and according to Pope via BBC Sport, his addition was one of the reasons they never pursued a move for the Tottenham star, with a concern over his fitness also part of it.

Pope said: “The situation with Solomon is that I understand Leeds United could have had him back on loan for a second spell from Spurs, but decided to buy Noah Okafor from AC Milan instead.

“Solomon’s injury record in recent seasons, I believe, was a consideration why United were inclined not to seek a permanent deal for the Israel international.”

Leeds may be regretting Manor Solomon decision

After failing to seal a move to Leeds, Solomon would go on to join La Liga outfit Villarreal, where has has since registered two goal contributions in three appearances.

Solomon’s stats for Leeds last season

With Dan James injured at Leeds, Jack Harrison yet to impress, and Willy Gnonto also sidelined, it begs the question as to how much of an influence the 26-year-old could have had this season.

Ultimately, hindsight is a wonderful thing, though the Whites, for now, seem justified in their decision not to bring him back to Elland Road.

However, what happens between now and January will be what sways people’s minds over the decision, with a long way to go yet for the Whites.
