‘Tell Leeds to leave him alone’ – Many fans blown away by what Elland Rd-linked teen did y’day
Leeds United-linked Sean McGurk scored a screamer for Wigan’s Under-18s in their FA Youth Cup victory over Harrogate on Tuesday.
McGurk, 17, helped the young Latics side book their place in the second round of the competition by scoring two goals either side of half-time.
One of those goals was shared on Wigan’s official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon and you can see why because it was an absolute stunner.
McGurk took a short corner, played a one-two with a team-mate before rifling the ball into the Harrogate goal from the corner of the penalty area.
It was some finish from the youngster, who has reportedly caught the eye of Premier League club Leeds United.
Last month, The Sun reported that Leeds are eye up a move to sign the young attacker next month after failing to sign him in the summer.
Leeds managed to snatch Joe Gelhardt from Wigan amid the Latics’ financial meltdown and relegation to League One but they reportedly refused to sell McGurk too because so many players were leaving.
But the Whites seem to feel that they have a chance of landing McGurk in January to reunite him with Gelhardt at Thorp Arch.
And based on what McGurk did on Tuesday night in the FA Youth Cup, you can see why the Yorkshire club would want him.
A lot of Wigan fans reacted to the clip of McGurk’s goal, with one comparing him to ex-Latics left-back Leighton Baines and another saying the League One club “need to tell Leeds to leave him alone”.
