Talks underway: Club wants to clinch deal to sign Leeds midfielder on loan – report
Sunderland and Swindon have held talks about signing Leeds United midfielder Robbie Gotts, according to the Northern Echo.
The newspaper claims that Hull City and Huddersfield are also interested in signing the 20-year-old, who can also play as a right-back.
Although the international transfer deadline passed on Monday night, Premier League and EFL clubs can still do business with one another up until October 16.
It means that Gotts could still secure a loan move away from Elland Road to earn some much-needed first-team experience.
Although the Harrogate-born youngster was regularly named in Marcelo Bielsa’s matchday squad in the Championship last season, he has only made three senior appearances for the Whites.
One of those came this season when Leeds lost in the second round of the Carabao Cup to Hull last month when he came off the bench for the final 19 minutes and scored in the penalty shoot-out.
Gotts is a highly-rated young player at Elland Road but he is seriously lacking first-team experience and could do with a loan move.
There is no shortage of interest in the player so we fully expect a temporary deal to be agreed before next Friday’s 5pm deadline.
It is all likely to come down to where Gotts and Leeds feel that the midfielder will earn the most game-time.
You would suspect that League One clubs Sunderland, Swindon and Hull would have an advantage in that regard but Huddersfield are managed by ex-Leeds Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan.
Corberan is still well respected by those at Leeds and Gotts might want to play for his former manager again.
