Takumi Minamino ready to quit Liverpool as Leeds United move looks likely - Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool are awaiting an “official proposal” from Leeds United as the Yorkshire giants pursue Takumi Minamino, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Guardian journalist wrote on the CaughtOffside website on 9 June that the Reds are ready to listen to offers for the 27-year-old Japan forward while he’s also ready to quit Anfield this summer.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp has other priorities in the attack and a move to Leeds looks a more likely outcome than a move to Inter Milan at this stage.

Romano adds that Minamino is valued between £15.3million to £16.2million, adding: “I think that kind of price means he could be a great signing for a number of Premier League clubs this summer.”

Signing number three?

Leeds have made a quick start to their transfer business this summer by wrapping up a double raid on Red Bull Salzburg for Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen.

And now, the Whites look as though they’re winning the race to sign Liverpool’s Minamino – another player who established himself in the European game at Salzburg.

Jesse Marsch managed Minamino in Austria and although he hasn’t lit English football alight at Anfield, we still think he’d be a good addition to the squad at Elland Road.

Minamino scored 10 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions in the 2021/22 season, playing a major role in Liverpool’s success in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The Japan international is versatile too as he’s able to play on both wings, up front or as a number 10.

Are the Whites looking at Minamino as a back-up option in the attack for Patrick Bamford? Or is he a replacement for Raphinha amid major speculation surrounding his future in West Yorkshire?

Either way, Minamino’s record is a decent one for a player who’s been on the fringes of Klopp’s plans on Merseyside and for around £16million, we’d be happy with him.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are poised to wrap up a major behind-the-scenes addition for Marsch.
