Stuart Pearce given Leeds transfer insight as Phillips return question answered

Leeds United are expected to be busy in this summer’s transfer window after securing a return to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s men sealed promotion in style after topping the Championship table with 100 points this season.

However, it’s widely agreed that a lot of signings will be needed to keep them in the top division.

Intel shared on Phillips returning to Leeds

Kalvin Phillips is one player who has been linked with a transfer to Elland Road.

The England midfielder remains a fan favourite, having come through the youth ranks and made than 200 appearances for the Whites.

Phillips was sold to Manchester City for £42million in 2022, and hasn’t looked the same player since that transfer, even if he has now amassed 92 Premier League appearances.

He has struggled to break into the City team and failed to find form in loan spells at West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

So, it would make sense that he’s looking for a transfer.

On talkSPORT’s breakfast show on Monday (9 June), co-host Stuart Pearce asked chief football correspondent Alex Crook about the chances of Phillips returning to his hometown club, as well as Jack Grealish joining Aston Villa.

And Crook confirmed that there is interest from Leeds in making it happen.

“Fans of both clubs would welcome it,” Crook said. “But there’s interest from Leeds in Phillips.”

Phillips’ return to Leeds would be a good move for both parties

We might have to wait a while to discover whether Phillips wants to return to Leeds.

That’s because the summer transfer temporarily closes on Tuesday (10 June) and won’t reopen until Monday 16 June.

A move for Phillips would be great for Leeds. The 29-year-old has racked up almost 100 appearances in the Premier League and would provide some extra steel in the midfield.

It would be a good move for the player too. Philipps had the world at his feet as a Leeds player when he was called up to the England squad and played a key role in Euro 2020.

He hasn’t been the same since. Perhaps a move back to his home town will help to relight the fire inside him.

Signing Phillips from Man City would reportedly cost Leeds around £10m.

Farke will be hoping to get some business done as soon as possible so that he has time to work with what is likely to be a new-look squad.
