BBC Radio Scotland pundit Stuart McCall was blown away by Ryan Kent’s performance for Rangers on Sunday amid fresh speculation linking the attacker with Leeds United.
Kent, 24, played a blinder as the Scottish Premiership champions beat Celtic 2-0 in the Scottish Cup with the ex-Liverpool ace playing a huge role in both goals.
He played a great pass out wide to Joe Aribo, who set up Steven Davis’ opener, and also forced an own goal by Jonjoe Kenny.
Leeds have been strongly linked with Kent for a few years but fresh speculation emerged over the weekend with The Sun reporting Marcelo Bielsa is keen on a £15million swoop for the Ibrox dazzler.
And based on the reaction to Kent’s performance, he could be a superb signing.
“Kent’s done that four times now up against [Scott] Brown. That’s a fantastic drag back and a really good hit. Fantastic play by Kent,” said McCall on BBC Radio Scotland on Sunday, as quoted by BBC Sport’s website.
Kent to light up Elland Road?
There’s no denying that Kent has had the best season of his senior career.
He’s scored 12 goals and supplied 13 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions for Rangers this term, playing a major role in them winning the Scottish Premiership, reaching the last-16 of the Europa League and making the Scottish Cup quarter-finals with that win over Celtic.
Kent is a typical winger who has great pace and loves to beat defenders.
According to stats by Wyscout, no player has had more touches in the box in the Scottish top-flight than Kent this season [133] while the English ace also ranks first for one-versus-one dribbles [255].
The Sun claims Bielsa has told Victor Orta he still has room in his squad for another winger, even though Leeds’ options in that position seem to be a bit bloated.
Kent has played mainly as a left-sided winger for Rangers this season. As it stands, Bielsa has Jack Harrison, Helder Costa, Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas who can play there while we’re sure Raphinha and Ian Poveda can also chip in on the left if needed.
Alioski is expected to move on in the summer and Costa, who’s struggled in the Premier League, might also be shipped out.
Kent, as an extra option, would be a good signing.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are working on a deal to sign this impressive left-back.
