‘Stay tuned’ – Fabrizio Romano teases Leeds transfer update, mentions ‘Work permits’

Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano has teased Leeds United fans with an update on Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

Nandez, 24, is a versatile Uruguay international who can play on the right-wing, as a central midfielder or even on the right-hand side of the defence.

He was linked with a move to Elland Road earlier in the transfer window when Diario Registrado reported that Leeds were interested in the Cagliari ace.

And now, Romano has told Leeds fans that they should expect some news about Nandez soon.

However, the Guardian reporter also hinted about potential work permit issues for players in Serie A who’ve been linked with a move to the Premier League after mentioning Nandez and Leeds.

“We also have to check out Leeds with Nandez from Cagliari. Pay attention,” said Romano in episode four of his Here We Go podcast on Patreon.

He added: “We will see if something happens between Italy and the Premier League. I can’t say more.

“Young players. Talented players. Italy. Premier League. Stay tuned.

“So young players but so good players, there are ongoing talks but it’s not easy because of the work permits. We have to see.

“Sorry for teasing you.”

Leeds have failed to sign Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich [Sky Sports] and it is well-known that Marcelo Bielsa wants another winger to join up with his squad.

Bielsa is a fan of having players who can play in multiple positions and Nandez fits that profile well with the Uruguayan ace playing almost anywhere on the right-hand side of the field.

As shown by his heatmap on WyScout last season, Nandez operated primarily on the right and that could be where Bielsa is looking to add to his squad.

However, Leeds do not have much time to be able to finalise a deal for Nandez as the transfer window for overseas transfers closes on Monday.

The Whites play Manchester City on Saturday and right now, work is being done to get the signing of Cuisance over the line so a move for Nandez might be one that goes right down to the wire.

But then you also have Romano discussing potential work permit issues.

The Italian reporter will hopefully go into some more detail about that soon.

In other Leeds United news, the BBC have received complaints about the actions of this former Leeds player while on air.
