St Gallen president reveals Isaac Schmidt Leeds United deal is ‘most significant’ in history
St Gallen club president Matthias Huppi has revealed that Isaac Schmidt’s transfer to Leeds United is the “most significant” in the club’s history.
Huppi also wished the 24-year-old good luck for his new journey after his exit was confirmed.
This comes after Leeds made Schmidt one of their last summer signings in order to try to bolster their hopes for Premier League promotion.
Speaking to the club’s official website Huppi said the following: “In financial terms, this is probably the most significant transfer in the history of our club.
“We wish Isaac all the best for his new challenge!”
Isaac Schmidt is perfect for Leeds United
Leeds United have undergone plenty of change throughout the summer transfer window.
The Whites are one of a few Championship teams that have made a plethora of changes to their squad.
Many players such as starlet Archie Gray [Robbie Fowler, 21 July, page 73] have exited Elland Road and forced Leeds into finding recruits.
However, on deadline day, Schmidt was added to Daniel Farke’s ranks as a versatile player who can cover more than one position for the West Yorkshire outfit.
Schmidt arrived for a fee worth around £4.6million [Ryan Taylor, 30 August] and could be the final piece that Leeds needed in their quest for Premier League promotion.

On paper, the West Yorkshire outfit looks to be one of the favourites to finish inside the top two with the club going unbeaten in the league so far.
Whilst it’s still early days of course, Farke will be encouraged by what he’s seen his team produce thus far and will no doubt be happy with the recent performances of his squad.
In other Leeds news, Wilfried Gnonto has been slated after what he did against Hull City on 31 August.
