‘Smells like a Cellino signing’ – Some Leeds fans react as Phil Hay says new arrival is imminent

Leeds United are reportedly on the cusp of signing young goalkeeper Elia Caprile from Serie B club Chievo – and fans on Twitter are not sure what to think of the news.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported via his personal Twitter account on Friday that Caprile, 18, is set to arrive in Leeds before the end of the week to put the finishing touches to his transfer to Elland Road.

It is understood that the Italy Under-18 international is – hopefully – going to be one of three new arrivals at the Championship’s leading club this month.

Of course, Leeds do not have a pressing need for a new goalkeeper who is likely going to be playing for the Under-23s for the next few seasons.

However if Victor Orta and his team of scouts see value in Caprile and reckon that he is worth signing – why not take the plunge and sign him?

That is something that Leeds fans always seem to struggle with.

Just because someone is being signed to play in the Under-23s side, does not mean that efforts are not being made to sign players for the first-team. Different people behind the scenes at Elland Road have different jobs.

Marcelo Bielsa is definitely going to want a new striker after losing Eddie Nketiah and this deal for Caprile is unlikely to put any kind of dent in the Argentine’s transfer budget for the month.

It’s just a lot easier to tie up deals like this than it would be for someone like Che Adams, for example.

Caprile could be a good prospect for the future and we can’t wait to see how he progresses.

It is a shame that some fans cannot see it that way.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have eyed up an international striker who they see as a more viable option than Billy Sharp.
