Sky Sports reporter shares what Leeds sources are now telling him about move for Kobbie Mainoo

Leeds United may not be too keen on signing Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in the January transfer window.

The England international has seen his prospects dwindle in recent months, with Ruben Amorim preferring other options in the middle of the park at Old Trafford.

As a result, Mainoo has been linked with a move to Elland Road, with the 20-year-old ready to push for a move away from the Red Devils in the coming months.

However, Sky Sports reporter Peter Graves has put cold water on the young Englishman’s possible move to LS11, with the West Yorkshire outfit not necessarily in need of a new midfielder.

Kobbie Mainoo transfer not a priority for Leeds United

Sources in Leeds have played down a move for Mainoo in the upcoming transfer window, Graves says.

The Sky Sports reporter has revealed that the England international may not be someone on the “immediate wishlist” at Elland Road due to the quality of depth in their midfield.

While it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mainoo, who has made 57 Premier League appearances, being linked to several clubs in the next few weeks, the West Yorkshire outfit could potentially be ruled out at this stage.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on 7 November at 12:50, Graves said: “It’s getting colder, it’s getting darker, and transfer links will start emerging. We’ve heard the speculation about Mainoo being linked with Leeds. He’ll no doubt be linked with a lot of clubs given he’s a top player who’s not currently playing.”

The reporter added: “My feeling is, and certainly the feeling from sources here in Leeds, is that he wouldn’t be a player on Leeds’ immediate wishlist. You could argue central midfield is Leeds’ strongest position.”

Daniel Farke has found a gem in Sean Longstaff, and he’s slotted well in the Whites’ midfield alongside Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach and Ao Tanaka.

Opta’s supercomputer expects Leeds to avoid Premier League relegation, but the race is too close for comfort right now.

The Whites are 16th in the league table, just four points ahead of 18th-place West Ham United, and their upcoming fixtures are relatively challenging.

A loss to Nottingham Forest on 9 November will undoubtedly leave Farke with questions to answer as the West Yorkshire outfit look to avoid an immediate drop to the Championship.

With back-to-back games against Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool before Christmas, the German manager’s only priority is to get enough points to float above the relegation zone around the new year.
