Sky Sports pundit tips Leeds to seal £10m permanent signing in 2021

Sky Sports pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink claims Leeds United will “try again” to sign Jack Harrison on a permanent deal from Manchester City next summer.

Harrison, 24, is currently in his third season on loan at Elland Road after the Whites failed to sign him permanently from Man City in the last summer transfer window.

After winning promotion from the Championship, it was widely expected that Leeds would sign the former New York City winger in a permanent deal worth £8million [Manchester Evening News].

However, the Yorkshire giants had to sign Harrison on loan again and will now have to pay £10million [Phil Hay, The Athletic] to buy the winger in 2021.

Ex-Leeds striker Hasselbaink believes Leeds will do exactly that.

“I think they tried it in the summer and they couldn’t get an agreement,” Hassebaink said on Amazon Prime’s live coverage on Tuesday, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I think they are going to try again. He loves his football at Leeds and he has matured big-time coming out of the youth system.

“You can see that he is growing and that he is an important player for Leeds United.”

Improving year after year

It is not very often you see a player spend three seasons on loan at a club but his two-and-a-half seasons under Marcelo Bielsa so far has seen Harrison transform into a top-quality Premier League winger.

The Stoke-born ace has scored three goals and supplied four assists in 15 Premier League appearances this term while stats by Wyscout show that he has the fourth-highest xA (expected assists) in the whole top-flight [4.1].

Harrison also ranks second for crosses [78] and joint-second with Bruno Fernandes for key passes [19].

Essentially, no one in the Leeds side creates more than Harrison does.

In his debut season at Elland Road, the 24-year-old was often criticised by supporters but last term as the Whites won promotion, he was one of their best players.

And now, in the Premier League, he’s also proving how much Bielsa improves players. Harrison has been a revelation for the Yorkshire club.
