Sky Sports journalist moots 2021 Leeds swoop to sign Leicester 24-year-old
Leeds United are likely to re-ignite their interest in Leicester City forward Demarai Gray at the end of the season, according to Rob Dorsett.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, the Sky Sports journalist reported that Gray’s contract at the King Power Stadium expires at the end of the season and Leeds could swoop for the 24-year-old later in the year after being linked with a move for him in October.
However, it seems that is likely to depend on what will happen with Gray this month as the ex-Birmingham attacker is reportedly open to joining a club abroad.
According to Dorsett, Marseille and “other European clubs” are considered a move for Gray, who’s barely featured for Leicester this season.
For free, why not?
As Gray will be available on a free transfer in the summer, we wouldn’t be against the idea of Leeds signing him.
Although the ex-England Under-21s forward has played just once in the Premier League this season as a late substitute against Crystal Palace last month, there’s still something about him that suggests Marcelo Bielsa could improve him.
Gray was a very exciting young prospect when he burst onto the scene at Birmingham and was linked with a move to a number of top Premier League clubs.
In September 2018, he was also called up to the England senior squad but, unfortunately for him, failed to earn a debut cap for the Three Lions.
Harvey Barnes’ emergence at Leicester has forced Gray down the pecking order but Bielsa has a knack for improving players, as seen with almost everyone in his squad at Elland Road right now.
We’d bank on the Leeds boss getting Gray back to his best but if the Leicester attacker’s available for free in the summer, it’s not going to be easy to sign him or to convince him to join a club that already has a lot of wingers on their books.
