Sky Sports journalist: Leeds United close to ‘bargain’ deal to sign Marc Roca for £14m total

Sky Sports News journalist David Garrido claims Leeds United are getting a “bargain” with their £14million signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca.

Garrido reports that Leeds are paying £12million for the 25-year-old Spanish midfielder with a further £2million being paid in add-ons.

Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported on 14 June that Roca will have his medical with Leeds on Friday (17 June).

After the news emerged of Leeds closing in on a deal for Roca, Garrido shared his expertise on the former Spain Under-21s international, suggesting that the Whites have done well to get him for the price they’ve agreed.

“I spoke to him four years ago when he was at Espanyol – lovely bloke and without doubt a very talented midfielder,” said Garrido on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (15 June).

“It didn’t work out at Bayern but £12m plus £2m in add-ons is a bargain.”

All but done

We’re almost there, Leeds fans.

It’s a bit of a surprise there’s been no announcement yet because sometimes, clubs will take to social media to say they’ve agreed a deal for a new signing subject to a medical.

In this instance, it seems as though the only thing left to do for Roca is to fly into England to have his medical checks with the Whites before the end of the week.

Garrido clearly knows a fair bit about Roca and his verdict on the former Espanyol midfielder is encouraging.

While he’s not had a fair rub of the green at Bayern by playing just 24 times in all competitions for them in two seasons, it doesn’t mean he’s a bad player by any stretch of the imagination.

It’s easy to look at appearance numbers and goal stats and make a decision on a player but at the end of the day, Roca did very well to play as many times as he did with Joshua Kimmich keeping him out of the starting line-up in Bavaria.

Roca is a much-needed signing for Leeds.

While he might not be a replacement for Kalvin Phillips at this stage, he could well be with Manchester City strongly linked with signing the Leeds United star.

But if Phillips does go, we’d expect some big money to be spent on a replacement.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this £50,000-a-week forward who’s available for just £3.4million.
