Sheffield Wednesday make bid to seal Ian Poveda transfer as last-gasp update emerges at Leeds United
Leeds United winger Ian Poveda could be set to join Sheffield Wednesday or Birmingham City on a permanent deal before the transfer deadline at 11pm on Thursday (1 February), according to Graham Smyth.
Writing on the Yorkshire Evening Post website on Thursday, the journalist said it is an “unexpected development” given that Daniel Farke previously seemed reluctant to allow any first-team players to leave Elland Road during this window.
Smyth then tweeted on his personal account that it’s his understanding that the Whites are not looking for a replacement for the 23-year-old Colombian international.
Interesting
This is quite a surprising update from Smyth as it looked unlikely that Leeds would allow any of their first-team players to move on this late in the window.
Poveda has largely been on the periphery of the squad this season, but Farke knows the importance of depth in the final few months of the campaign.
But the opportunity to earn some money on the winger could be far too tempting for the Whites as they are now set to make a decision on his future.
If he does join one of their Championship rivals, then that could potentially mean another attacking player could still be set to come through the door at Elland Road.
But they are now up against it as there are only a few hours left in the window to try and improve their squad ahead of a crucial few months in the club’s bid for promotion.
