Sheffield United takeover hits Leeds United transfer push for Jayden Bogle

Leeds United pushing for Jayden Bogle is potentially being made difficult by Sheffield United this summer, according to Graham Smyth.

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast (18 July), Smyth said that the takeover situation at Bramall Lane is making it difficult after what he has heard.

The Whites have already had two bids turned down for Bogle, rated at £7million by the Blades, who are currently in new ownership talks with a US consortium [The Star, 12 July].

Smyth said: “I wonder if the Sheffield United situation is making it more difficult to get things done, in terms of buying their players.

“It’s a bad look for them to agree to business that a direct rival believes strengthens their promotion bid.

“But if [Bogle is] not willing to sign a new deal and Leeds is the best offer on the table, they might just end up deciding to take it.

“This takeover is still very much in the ether. I have heard on numerous occasions that it has held up business for them this summer.”

Leeds United must push button on Jayden Bogle transfer

This summer’s transfer window has been a quiet one so far in terms of incomings at Elland Road, with only Alex Cairns and Joe Rodon heading through the doors permanently.

Joe Rothwell has arrived on loan, but otherwise, it’s been a summer of headline departures, none more so than Archie Gray, who moved to Tottenham for £40million [Graham Smyth, 1 July].

The arrival of Rothwell will help to accommodate for the losses of Gray and Glen Kamara in midfield, but the full-back spots are in desperate need of attention and Bogle is high on the agenda.

At present, Junior Firpo and Sam Byram are the only full-backs on the books who also played last season, and it appears that Bogle would be first-choice on the right almost straight away.

Therefore, despite not wanting to pay Sheffield United £7million for the 23-year-old, the Peacocks need to reach a compromise soon, if they’re to avoid being left short in defence once the new season begins [Daily Mirror, 17 July].
