Sheffield United enter race for Leicester City defender Luke Thomas, offer on the table from Leeds United

Leeds United have an offer on the table for Leicester defender Luke Thomas, but Sheffield United are considering a move too, reports Tom Collomosse.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (30 August), the Daily Mail journalist reports that the Premier League club are “strongly considering” a move for the 22-year-old on a season-long loan.

But they face competition from the Whites who have an offer on the table, despite having already signed Djed Spence on loan from Tottenham this week.

“Sheffield United strongly considering a move for Luke Thomas on a season-long loan,” he wrote.

“Leicester defender also had an offer on the table from Leeds.”

Not needed

Unless we’re expecting more exits now, then Thomas’ addition to the club at this point isn’t really necessary.

He is capable of playing at both left-back and right-back, but as it stands Djed Spence’s arrival is to allow for Cody Drameh to leave the club either permanently or on loan.

Leeds United

On top of that we already have Luke Ayling, Sam Byram, Leo Hjelde and even Junior Firpo still at the club so we’re well stocked in the position.

Thomas’ contract at Leicester is due to expire next summer so if we are to sign him it’s likely to be a permanent deal eventually, and whether he is good enough for the Premier League – which is where we want to be – is up for debate.

If Farke wants him then this is a deal that would have already been done seemingly, but the fact Spence has since come in you would assume Sheffield United have a free run at him from our point of view.

In other Leeds news, reasons for £8m transfer collapse shared with deal dead in the water.
