Seko Fofana scores last-minute winner for Lens amid Leeds United transfer speculation

Leeds United look as though they could sign a real gamechanger if they follow up on their interest in Lens midfielder Seko Fofana.

On Saturday, the 26-year-old scored a 95th-minute winner for Lens as they came from behind to win 2-1 away at Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1.

It was Fofana’s eighth goal of the season as the Ivory Coast international’s impressive form at Lens continued.

It was a stunning all-around performance by Fofana, backing up his manager Franck Haise’s opinion that he’s a “complete” midfielder.

Stats by WhoScored show that Fofana had a pass accuracy of 93 per cent, made two key passes, completed two of the three dribbles he attempted and had four shots – one, of course, being the one that won the match for Lens in stoppage time.

The former Manchester City and Fulham midfielder really is a man on top of his game and he’s really shown in that performance why Leeds United should be splashing the cash to sign him this month.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week [13 January] that Leeds were in the hunt to sign Fofana while Burnley and Newcastle are also keen on him.

It is understood that Lens could be tempted to sell Fofana if the right offer is made for him in the January transfer window.

Lens reportedly want £14million for the Paris-born midfielder but last month, Jeunes Footeux reported that the Ligue 1 outfit would want at least £25million.

Leeds United

Fofana really would be perfect for Leeds this month.

He’s a goal threat from the midfield, which is something the Whites have lacked this season with Raphinha the only one capable of scoring when Patrick Bamford is injured.

The Ligue 1 website says Fofana is also “a tireless runner and a powerful presence” who’s a box-to-box midfielder.

He doesn’t stop running – another tick on Marcelo Bielsa’s checklist.

Everything about this adds up and that match-winning performance on Saturday just goes to show why Leeds need to land this player as soon as possible.

In other Leeds United news, this £16.6million-rated Leeds ace has told Bielsa he wants to leave this month.
