Sebastiaan Bornauw admits forcing Leeds United exit as injuries hit

Sebastiaan Bornauw left Leeds United after only one full season this summer.

The Belgian joined from Wolfsburg after promotion to the Premier League, but played a rotation role.

In the end, he wanted more and seeked a way out.

Daniel Farke isn't one to stand in the way of players who want out, and he subsequently joined Hamburg back in Germany.

With an initial loan move agreed, Bornauw made the move with an option-to-buy that will basically see Leeds break even.

But, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Injuries hit hard away from Leeds United

Bornauw leaving opened the door for the Whites to sign Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Ironically, he was straight into the starting XI after Joe Rodon picked up an injury, something Bornauw did last season.

Now, he's had issues of his own in Germany.

BILD has reported in its latest print edition that Bornauw has already suffered from "persistent" muscle injuries.

The German newspaper reveal that's why he's been missing for a couple of weeks against RB Leipzig and Cologne.

Now, with the extended international break, he's said to be returning to full fitness after not his first issue, clearly.

What has Sebastiaan Bornauw said about Leeds exit?

It's no secret he wanted out, and in the end, he basically had to force it when the door opened.

Speaking about it, Bornauw admitted he "fought" to get out of Leeds and join Hamburg.

After only one year and a decent amount of Premier League appearances, he jumped at the first opportunity.

Leeds don't need players like that, and have secured several upgrades already for their second season up.

Elvedi is solid, and Tarik Muharemovic looks like a world-beater already.

Whereas Bornauw has played twice in the Bundesliga, and been beaten both times, against Borussia Dortmund and Mainz, the latter a humbling 5-0 defeat.

Leeds have moved on already, and with small injuries starting to mount up for their loanee, they won't be welcoming him back anytime soon.

It does need to improve though, especially if they want that permanent option to be taken up.
