Sean Longstaff is a huge fan of Leeds United’s latest target, he once claimed he was ‘vital’

Sean Longstaff has been full of praise in the past about a player who has since been linked with a move to Leeds United.

Daniel Farke has gone from being nailed on to face the sack to being a genuine contender for the Premier League’s December Manager of the Month award.

That turnaround has seen Leeds earn some breathing space on the bottom three, and also alleviate some of the pressure on the Whites’ business in January.

With that said, Leeds are still expected to be active from a recruitment perspective, and their latest target is someone that Longstaff is a big fan of.

Joe Willock lined up for Elland Road transfer

Two months ago, it seemed as though Leeds would be relegated if they failed to sign a striker in January, and yet Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s remarkable form has completely changed that perspective.

While the Whites may still look to bring in a new number nine, it’s no longer likely to be a priority.

Instead, other areas of the squad are being looked at, with Leeds linked with a move to sign Joe Willock, who has fallen out of favour at Newcastle this season.

Longstaff, having played alongside Willock for several seasons, knows all about the 26-year-old, and he has previously hailed the impact he had in the North East.

Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, he said: “I think when [Willock’s] fit, he’s so vital to us.

“The way he carries the ball, he’s so athletic… and is always willing to take risks, which makes him so good.”

What could Leeds fans expect from Joe Willock?

Leeds’ midfield has been a big reason behind their recent success, with Anton Stach in particular showcasing his quality.

However, the depth after those who typically start is weak, and Willock would improve on that.

He is a willing runner who can bring goals and assists, and is excellent at driving forward with the ball in transition and at pace.

Willock’s best position is certainly on the left of a midfield three, though his versatility has been used a lot by Eddie Howe, and is no doubt something that Farke would look to utilise as well.
