Ryan Kent in final weeks of Rangers contract and likely to seal transfer with Leeds United linked

Rangers’ winger Ryan Kent is set to leave the club within weeks with Leeds United being “persistently linked”, according to Stephen McGowan of the Scottish Daily Mail.

As things stand, Kent is expected to leave Ibrox at the end of the season when his contract expires, with no positive outcome from talks over the last international break.

Burnley are said to have made an approach as they prepare for promotion to the Premier League, making their move ahead of the competition, it seems.

The former Liverpool youth player is likely to have a few options, including an extension in Glasgow, but for now his future is up in the air.

“The 26-year-old is in the final weeks of his current contract, with no sign of renewing,” wrote McGowan.

“Free to talk to potential clubs, newly-promoted Burnley have declared their interest – and have also scouted Aberdeen striker Luis ‘Duk’ Lopes. A Rangers player since 2018, the former Liverpool star joined on loan before penning a permanent £7million deal.

“Persistently linked with Leeds, Kent has scored 40 goals in 140 appearances for the club.”

There has been plenty of speculation in the past regarding interest in Kent from Leeds and he is still likely to be on one list or another at Thorp Arch.

He has evidenced his ability in Scotland and in Europe for Rangers, as much as his critics would say that he is not consistent enough.

After five seasons with Rangers, this could well be the time for a fresh break for the player who is likely to thrive in a different league with much more space to play in, either from a wide position or in a free role as Michael Beale has deployed him, in recent months.

Burnley in the Premier League is a different proposition than in the second tier and unfortunately prospective new signings for the Whites don’t know what league they would be playing in, or for what coach.

Bringing Kent to Elland Road would still be a possibility but with so much uncertainty abound just now, many players will opt for more assurances, that the likes of Vincent Kompany and Burnley are able to provide at present.
