Rothwell transfer: Multi-million Leeds update emerges from Bournemouth

Leeds United seem to be well on their way to achieving their aims of promotion to the Premier League this term.

There is plenty of football still to be played but sitting at the top of the Championship, two points clear of Sheffield United, there will be a good feeling inside Elland Road.

With this in mind, no one can blame the Whites for starting to think about the summer transfer window with their minds in the top-flight.

Leeds United get Bournemouth answer about Joe Rothwell

Joe Rothwell joined Leeds on loan in the summer transfer window and has definitely made his mark in West Yorkshire since his arrival.

The midfielder has solidified himself as a regular in the Whites side, making 29 Championship appearances across the campaign so far.

As a result, it’s no surprise that supporters are calling on their club to make the loan a permanent deal in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that a fee of £7.5million will be on the cards if the Whites want to secure his services.

Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News how the Premier League outfit would feel about letting Rothwell would go for this fee as he said (14 February): “They are open to the idea.

“What I got back from Bournemouth, (Is around) that ball-park but possibly even less would get him.

“There is an interest there but both clubs will talk at the end of the season, nothing has happened yet.”

Leeds United ready to strike Joe Rothwell deal

The news that Bournemouth are interested in striking a deal will be music to Leeds’ ears as they look ahead to life hopefully in the top flight and building a squad early.

It does make sense that there hasn’t been much in terms of conversations surrounding a transfer yet as both clubs are certainly pre-occupied with their own interests in the league.

For Leeds, they need to maintain their momentum for the remainder of the season, dealing with the busy Championship schedule that lies ahead, to ensure they don’t get too comfortable and risk falling away.

Meanwhile, the Cherries are having an excellent season in the top flight, sitting seventh in the Premier League and still in the FA Cup.

However, it certainly seems as though both clubs are open to a deal and the South Coast club may even be willing to accept less than £7.5million to let Rothwell go.

You can understand why Daniel Farke would be keen to sign him on a permanent basis as he needs to keep a core spine of his side in place and add strength around in if his side are to succeed if promoted this term.

Bournemouth on the other hand, will no doubt be pleased with how their loanee has done away from the Vitality Stadium but they won’t want their successful season to be a one-off which could mean they need to look at upgrades throughout their squad.
