Ross McCormack has aired his delight at the latest signing made by Leeds United following confirmation Joe Rothwell has joined from Bournemouth.

The club announced on their Instagram account (11 July) that Rothwell has arrived at Elland Road on a season-long loan.

McCormack expressed his excitement about the move and showed support with a comment on the post.

The BBC Sport pundit said: "Big signing that. Well done all," alongside a clapping hand emoji.

Joe Rothwell joins Leeds United on season-long loan

The signing of Rothwell is a good news for Leeds as they look to rebuild a side capable of Premier League promotion next season.

Rothwell spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton, where he made 20 appearances and scored four goals. He was an unused substitute for the Championship play-off final.

Rothwell won the Saints' Goal of the Season award with a volley against Huddersfield Town, while that strike also won the February Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month.

The 29-year-old has a wealth of Championship experience, having played over 150 times for Blackburn Rovers.

The departure of Archie Gray is still sore for Leeds fans, but Rothwell is a step in the right direction to rebuild the side.

Rothwell is a former England U20 international that will bring a wealth of experience to the side. His loan is a low-risk, high-reward signing that further boosts the already minimal options in midfield.

The Whites are still thin in the middle of the park despite Rothwell arriving and will need to recruit further in the central positions.

Daniel Farke will have to spend carefully and wisely to avoid another season in the Championship, and to avoid the need to offload the squad's best players.
