Ross Barkley will improve Leeds United midfield – Sky Sports pundit
By Jake Gray
Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson believes Ross Barkley would improve the Leeds United midfield if he’s signed in January.
The 27-year-old is reportedly a target for Marcelo Bielsa in the January transfer window [90min], but there will be competition from other clubs looking to secure the former Everton man’s services.
Barkley’s career has somewhat stagnated since signing for Chelsea in January 2018 and following a loan move to Aston Villa last season, Dawson believes a move to Elland Road could be on the cards for him.

When asked if England international Barkley would improve Bielsa’s side on Sky Sports News [October 23, 2:55pm], he said “Very much so.
“Barkley would be a good signing. You talked about the depth in the side, it’s very small.”

A gap that needs filled
The Whites need for an attacking midfielder was emphasised in Saturday’s draw with Wolves, as Daniel James played a central role with fellow wingers Jack Harrison and Raphinha also starting the game.
James was found to be ineffective in this central role, touching the ball just nine times in the first half, less than every other player on the pitch.
Despite having played in a similar position for both Wales and Manchester United, the 23-year-old was moved to his more natural position of left wing in the second half.
Barkley could be the player to relieve the attacking midfield headache for Marcelo Bielsa. His pace, power, and ambition to get at defenders makes him a good fit to the Whites style of play.
If he can recapture his form from his time at Everton, Leeds will have an exciting attacking player with plenty of Premier League experience.
Lack of game time at Chelsea this season will leave the former Leeds loanee hoping for a move and a return to Yorkshire may be what he needs to reignite his career.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been told to sign three players in January after a major update by Phil Hay.
