Roma in advanced talks to sign Rasmus Kristensen, Leeds United exit could be just hours away

Rasmus Kristensen could be just hours away from sealing a loan move away from Leeds United, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported on their website on Tuesday (11 July) that Roma are in advanced talks to sign Kristensen, 26, on loan due to a clause in his contract that allows him to temporarily leave Elland Road if Leeds are relegated to the Championship.

Gazzetta Dello Sport claim “contacts are increasingly dense” between all involved parties and the Danish right-back could jet into Rome before the end of the week.

Goodbye

Kristensen leaving is no loss.

He really struggled to get to grips with the Premier League, being below average in almost all of his appearances for the Whites last season.

Leeds’ weird change in dynamic last summer saw Victor Orta hand Jesse Marsch too much control with transfers.

While Orta probably wouldn’t have done much better himself, Marsch was allowed to go out and sign players simply because he’d worked with them before or because they were born in the same country as him.

Tyler Adams worked out well before his injury.

Brenden Aaronson and Kristensen were complete and utter failures (although we admit the former was also wanted by Marcelo Bielsa).

Marsch’s uncreative transfer approach led to him signing a right-back he didn’t really need and one that Leeds could have really done without buying – especially at £10million.

We had Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh, why did we need another right-back?

Ayling needed to be upgraded on but Drameh was so clearly a better option yet the Whites didn’t bother sticking their fight in the youngster despite some seriously impressive performances in the Championship.

Why on earth Jose Mourinho wants Kristensen at Roma, we don’t know.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has revealed the Whites have fended off interest in one of their exciting young midfielders.
