Roma find Dobvyk replacement as Leeds zone in on £34m+ blockbuster deal

Leeds look set to firm up their interest in Roma striker Artem Dovbyk.

Daniel Farke‘s side are in desperate need of reinforcements in attack before the new Premier League season begins.

There are concerns over Joel Piroe’s ability to step up to the top-flight, and Patrick Bamford has been informed that he is not a part of the German’s plans.

Meanwhile, young Spanish attacker Mateo Joseph wants to return to his homeland, so the interest in Dovbyk makes sense.

Leeds get encouragement in the race to sign Dovbyk

The Elland Road outfit have identified the 28-year-old as a solution to their attacking woes ahead of the new campaign.

A report from Corriere della Sera (page 8, 31 July) claims that the Whites are pursuing the Ukrainian forward, who the Italian outfit value at £34.5million.

It states that Roma are keeping an eye on Chelsea ace Marc Guiu, who is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, as a potential replacement.

Dovbyk would be a perfect solution to Leeds’ problems

Having a proven goalscorer in their squad may be the difference between survival and going straight back down to the Championship.

The Ukraine international is exactly that, having notched 12 goals last season for the Giallorossi in Serie A last season.

In the 2023/24 campaign, he scored 24 and bagged eight assists for Girona, which earned him the move to Stadio Olimpico.

He would be a perfect solution to Farke’s issues in LS11, and the price tag represents good value for a striker that can contribute across Europe’s top-five leagues.

Whether the 49ers Enterprises group are willing to sanction a deal remains to be seen, but they have shown that they are willing to spend on players that they feel can help Farke.

This is a deal that makes sense, especially when the Whites need an experienced striker to help their survival bid, and his current club are already looking for replacements.

They have been linked with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nikola Krstovic, but they would be huge gambles, whereas Dovbyk is a proven commodity and could adapt to his new surroundings immediately.
