Rodrigo to jet out for Qatar, Leeds United exit will soon be made official

Rodrigo will soon jet out to Qatar to leave Leeds United and join Al-Rayyan, according to Al Arab.

The Arabian news outlet reported on their website on Thursday (29 June) that Rodrigo, 32, will arrive in Doha imminently to agree a contract at Al-Rayyan and make his move to the Qatari Stars League official.

Rodrigo will enter the final year of his Leeds contract this summer and since relegation to the Championship, it’s been widely reported that a £2.6million release clause has become active [Bruno Andrade].

Gutted

Let’s face it, losing Rodrigo is a big blow.

It’s an expected blow, however, because the former Valencia and Real Madrid man was always going to leave Leeds this summer because he’s way too good for the Championship.

Last season, as the Whites suffered relegation from the Premier League, Rodrigo was easily one of the best players at the club.

He scored 13 goals in 31 league appearances for the Yorkshire club. When he scored, Leeds only lost three times.

If everyone else put in half the amount of effort Rodrigo did in his performances then Leeds would still be a Premier League club and there’d no doubt be a new contract on the cards for the Spain international at Elland Road.

But he’s now looking at a move to the Middle East as one final pay day – and we cannot blame him.

Rodrigo has had a great career that’s seen him play in La Liga, the Premier League and for the Spain national team.

He deserves to wind down his days while earning a big wad of cash in Qatar.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are planning to offer an exit-bound ace less money to stay according to Phil Hay.
