Rodrigo on verge of quitting Leeds United with multi-million Sevilla transfer close

Rodrigo is set to join Sevilla on a permanent basis from Leeds United, according to El Partidazo de COPE.

The Spanish radio show reported via their Twitter account on Tuesday (20 June) that Victor Orta’s first act at Sevilla is to sign the 32-year-old forward for a second time after previously bringing him to Leeds for Valencia in August 2020.

It is understood that Rodrigo has a release clause of £3million due to Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League and the only thing to do for Sevilla is to finalise the terms.

Wow

Rodrigo is a massive loss for Leeds.

He was one of the club’s best players last season and gave 100 per cent in every single game he played.

The former Valencia star scored 13 goals in 31 Premier League appearances, playing a lot of those games as an attacking midfielder, too.

If every Leeds player put in the same effort Rodrigo did last season, we might still be a Premier League club.

It’s understandable for him to leave.

Sevilla are the Europa League champions (again) and will be playing in the Champions League next season, a level of football that Rodrigo deserves after the mess he’s endured at Elland Road.

From Leeds’ point of view, they’re getting a few million for an ageing player who was costing a bomb on the wage bill. According to The Times, his contract was worth £100,000-a-week in the Premier League.

There are positives about the deal – but they’re the only ones.

We wish Rodrigo all the best at Sevilla.
