Rodrigo agrees personal terms with Sevilla ahead of imminent Leeds United exit

Rodrigo Moreno has agreed personal terms ahead of a transfer from Leeds to Sevilla and will join on July 1st, according to Vamos Mi Sevilla.

The Spanish striker is expected to leave the club during the summer window after relegation, where he had his best goalscoring season in England.

But a return to La Liga now looks imminent as the 32-year-old has agreed a contract to join Sevilla and reunite with former director of football Victor Orta ahead of the 2023/24 season.

“Another piece of news that caused the illusion of Sevillism was that of the possible signing of Rodrigo Moreno,” they wrote (24 June).

“The player has everything agreed with Sevilla FC and will be a rojiblanco player from July 1, since he still has a contract with Leeds United.

“An agreement was reached yesterday regarding the economic issue and he will occupy the salary step left by Papu Gómez who will go to Saudi Arabia.”

Expected

This is expected and it’s absolutely no surprise to anyone who has been paying any sort of attention to the situation at the club.

Rodrigo is far too good to be playing in the second tier even at his age, but it also can’t be ignored that he earns a boat load of cash in wages and also is entering the final year of his contract at Elland Road.

It’s clear to all that this window is the perfect opportunity for him to move on from the club to get the most out of the end of his career, but also for Leeds to get his wages off the books and save themselves a decision.

After the season he had his value is as high as it can possibly be considering all the circumstances and it’s the best cauldron for him to go.

Orta will know if he has a release clause in his deal or how much the club will want for him so negotiations between the clubs should be easy and it should be done relatively quickly.
