Leeds United defender Robin Koch is currently undergoing a medical at Eintracht Frankfurt as he closes in on a temporary exit from Elland Road, according to Phil Hay.

The German centre-back will join the Bundesliga club temporarily for the 2023/24 campaign, having not been involved in any of Daniel Farke's training sessions since he became the club's new manager.

Koch is out of contract at the Whites next summer, and will become a free agent once his loan deal with Frankfurt expires, Hay added.

“Leeds United defender Robin Koch is undergoing a medical with Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of a loan move to the Bundesliga,” Hay wrote for The Athletic.

“Leeds want to move Koch off their wage bill following their relegation from the Premier League and he has not been involved in any of their pre-season training sessions this week under new manager Daniel Farke.”

Exit understandable

Koch looks set to be one of many senior players to leave Leeds following their disappointing relegation from the Premier League, with many top stars not wanting to be playing in the Championship next season.

The German will be among those senior figures who will be keen to be involved with a club playing in the elite tiers of European football as opposed to the English second division, where Leeds could find themselves for quite some time given how competitive the league is.

The likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Rodrigo, Marc Roca and Tyler Adams could all be on their way out of Elland Road this summer along with Koch, either temporarily or permanently.

Leeds will be losing several key players, but the positive is that they can free up both space and funds to bring in new faces, and importantly those new faces will want to be at the club and fight for immediate promotion to the Premier League.
