Rob Edwards revelation could hand Leeds United immediate double transfer boost
Rob Edwards has been sacked as Wolves manager, just days after appearing in a transfer announcement for the club.
Leeds have Wolves' woes partly to thank for their ability to stay in the Premier League last season, given that it was clear they were going to occupy one of the relegation spots very early into the campaign.
They moved to hire Edwards towards the latter stages of the campaign, mainly with a view to him getting them back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
After concluding moves for Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, Edwards was a big part of the transfer announcements that followed.
And yet it was confirmed on Thursday morning that the promotion hopefuls have since moved to sack the former Luton Town manager, who was only made aware of the fact when their next boss was rumoured on social media.
Amid all the uncertainty and confusion, Leeds could take advantage, having already been linked with two of their standout stars from last season.
Which Wolves stars could Leeds sign?
Several centre-backs have been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer, with Santiago Bueno one of them.
The Uruguayan played his part in a dismal Wolves side, and would provide some much needed depth and quality to Daniel Farke's backline.
Another name linked is Hugo Bueno, an attacking left wing-back, which is where Leeds need to add depth to this summer.
Gabriel Gudmundsson had an excellent debut campaign, but the lack of competition beyond him has been exposed in his absence at times throughout the previous campaign.
How could Edwards' sacking help Leeds?
Given the fact that Edwards was not even informed of his sacking, it's fair to assume it was a similar case for the players, with Liam Keen, via X, having described the situation as "truly bizarre".
Many of them would have either made the move or stated their desire to stay at Molineux, thinking they would be playing for him, when in actual fact, they won't be.
That has a very good chance of ruffling some feathers ahead of the summer window, and potentially causing some unhappiness among the squad.
Whether that leads to exits remains to be seen, but Leeds need to take advantage if the opportunity comes around.
