Report: Leeds retain interest in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez

Leeds United could return for a long-term Marcelo Bielsa favourite in the shape of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to Centotrentuno.

The Italian news outlet claims relations between Andrea Radrizzani and Cagliari supremo Tommaso Giulini are ‘more than friendly’ and that the £26million offered by the Whites last summer will be put on the table again as soon as the season ends.

That’s less than four weeks away now with Leeds set to play their last fixture this season on May 23.

The report claims that the Whites have not given up on his signature, and the Serie A side’s precarious position in the league could aid his chances, but even in the event that they do not suffer relegation, they still need to raise funds.

It could be a deal that interests Leeds given their previous offer with Centrotrentuno reporting in September that Bielsa has “always been a great admirer” since his time with Argentine giants Boca Juniors.

Bielsa and Victor Orta may face competition from Roma however, with the Italian side also ready to pounce if the terms are right for them.

What El Loco wants…

If Bielsa’s big on him, then so are we by proxy.

Last summers’ signings have proven to be pretty successful, with Raphinha the jewel in the crown.

Nandez is a player we have been consistently linked with before so Whites fans are likely well versed in his characteristics already.

He’s a versatile and fiery player, evidenced in eight yellows cards in Serie A to add to his 14 last season, while he was also sent off earlier this year against Benevento.

According to WhoScored he has started nine Serie A games in the middle of midfield, while he has also featured as a wing-back and winger on both sides of the pitch.

We’ve seen the success of Stuart Dallas in a variety of positions and it looks like Nandez could perform a similar function for the team if he is brought in.

Plus he’s still only 25, so he surely has plenty of potential to grow under Bielsa.
