Report: Leeds in pursuit of versatile young winger likened to £90,000-a-wk ex-Bielsa player

Leeds United are in pursuit of non-league teenager Samuel Oguntayo but face competition from Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Watford, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that Palace sent a scout to watch Oguntayo, 17, play for Isthmian League Premier Division side Kingstonian in their 4-2 defeat to Cheshunt on Wednesday.

It is understood that the youngster, who can play at left-back or on the right-wing, has since accepted the chance to go on trial with Crystal Palace’s Under-23s side, putting them in pole position to secure his signature.

Leeds remain interested in Oguntayo though as the Whites keep their tabs on young, up-and-coming players outside of the Premier League and EFL.

Oguntayo sounds like he could be a decent acquisition for Leeds if they are able to sign him.

The Sun reports that he has been “likened” to £90,000-a-week [Spotrac] Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy, who has previously played for Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille.

Oguntayo is said to be a pacey player and his versatility could be something that really appeals to Leeds, who have Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski playing regularly in the first-team because they can play at full-back and on the wings.

Maybe Oguntayo is a Bielsa player in the making.
