Report: Leeds in last-minute contact with representatives of £2.1m-rated defender

Leeds United have made a last-minute move to sign Chelsea and Ghana left-back Baba Rahman, according to Ghanasoccernet.com.

The Ghanian news outlet, which has over 250,000 followers on Facebook, has reported that Leeds have made contact with the 26-year-old’s representatives as they eye a deadline day swoop for him.

It is understood that Rahman is valued at just £2.1million.

Goal has also reported that an unnamed English club has made a season-long loan offer to take Rahman from Chelsea so, based on this update from Ghana, Leeds could be that club.

However, LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross has cast doubt on the rumour, saying Rahman is “not a name we’ve heard mentioned at Elland Road at all”, adding that Marcelo Bielsa is pleased with his options at left-back.

That, of course, conflicts with a report by The Mirror which says that Leeds are eyeing a loan bid to sign French left-back Yasser Larouci from Liverpool.

Rahman was signed by Chelsea for £15million in 2015 but he has since made just 23 first-team appearances for the Premier League club.

He’s had spells out on loan at Schalke, Reims and Mallorca, which is where he played on loan last season but managed to make just two La Liga appearances before suffering a serious knee injury.

Leeds require their players to be very fit to be able to meet Marcelo Bielsa’s approval and with Rahman not playing competitively in a long time, we just don’t see how he would be someone who’d fit the profile at Elland Road.

However, it has been reported that Barry Douglas could be on his way out of Elland Road before the end of the transfer window with Watford in talks to sign him [Daily Mail].

Douglas is the only natural left-back among Bielsa’s senior options so if he goes, we would expect a replacement to come in.

Rahman might be that player based on the reports from Ghana and Goal but we’d assume someone with sources at Elland Road like LeedsLive’s Cross would have heard his name crop up.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are plotting a late swoop for this Dutch international.
