Report: Leeds have new striker on shortlist, has scored 108 in 222 since Wolves sold him for £1m
Leeds United fans were desperately hoping that a new striker was brought in early in the January window.
Aside from needing a new striker desperately, even as back-up for Patrick Bamford, one of the reasons for this was to be put out of the misery of being linked with every available striker in the transfer window.
Like Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths.
He’s the latest name to be put in the frame and Football Insider has claimed that Griffiths is now on Victor Orta’s shortlist.
Griffiths is behind Odsonne Edouard in the pecking order at Celtic and Neil Lennon signed 21-year-old striker Patryk Klimala last week for £3.5m.
Griffiths has only scored four goals from 19 appearances this season, but has 108 in 222 games overall for the Scottish giants.

He’s spent the majority of his time in Scotland but he did score 12 in 26 for Wolves in League One before they sold him to Celtic for just over £1m.
The 29-year-old has four goals in 19 appearances for Scotland.
Back in December 2018, Griffiths took a break from playing after admitting depression. He’s found it hard to re-establish him at Celtic since and could be open to a move, despite having a contract there until 2022.
It’s very tough trying to evaluate how a striker would cope with the transition from the Premiership to the Championship.
Take Josh Windass. The attacker scored 13 in 33 games with eight assists for Rangers in the 17/18 season. In his first season in the Championship for Wigan he scored five in 35, with four assists.
Celtic might be dominant in the Premiership but they’re no more than a decent Championship side. And if Griffiths isn’t good enough for Celtic, he’s not going to be good enough for Leeds.
We think fans would be very underwhelmed with Griffiths.
