Report details eight-figure fee Leeds have agreed to sign Augustin permanently in summer
Leeds United will have to pay £17.7million to sign Jean-Kevin Augustin from RB Leipzig on a permanent deal in the summer if they win promotion, according to BILD.
The German newspaper claims that the Whites have agreed to buy Augustin, 22, from the Bundesliga club if he helps them return to the Premier League.
It was confirmed on Monday that Augustin has signed for Leeds on loan for the rest of the season.
Monaco had to agree to terminate the striker’s loan spell there before allowing him to return to Leipzig and go on to wrap up his temporary switch to Elland Road.
Monaco paid a £3.4million loan fee when they signed Augustin from Leipzig in the summer and BILD now reports that Leeds have agreed to cover half of that.
It means that in total, Augustin could cost the Yorkshire giants a club-record £19.4million at the end of the campaign if they finish in the Championship’s top-two places or win the play-offs.
Augustin is bound to be worth the money.
At 22-years-of-age, he is still young and has some improving to do.
Although he struggled at Monaco, his form in his time at Leipzig suggests that he should be able to get among the goals in the Championship without much difficulty.
If the Whites do win promotion then they will get a highly-rated young French striker for less than £20million.
That would be some deal.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are eyeing a French centre-back from Ligue 1.
