Rennes ‘trying hard’ for Crysencio Summerville transfer as Leeds United problems emerge

Rennes are “trying hard” to sign Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville this summer but he could be too expensive, according to Sam C.

Writing on his personal X account (20 July), the insider who has previously correctly shared that Luke Shaw would start the Euro 2024 final and that Moussa Diaby was close to a move to Saudi Arabia, reports that the Ligue 1 club are eyeing alternative options in case a deal can’t be found.

An unnamed right winger from a “Big Six” Premier League club is being eyed for a loan move in case Summerville is too expensive, with the Whites reportedly holding out for between £30-40m to sell him [Fabrizio Romano, 18 June].

Leeds United prepared to keep Crysencio Summerville?

The expectation all summer has been that Summerville would be sold [Phil Hay, 27 May] and would leave Elland Road for a Premier League side after his stellar season last year.

But interest hasn’t been as concrete as many would have expected, with Brighton making their move [18 June] but then dropping out of the race [Fabrizio Romano] after signing alternative targets.

Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked but nothing has come from it yet, and with Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and Charlie Cresswell already leaving the club are not in dire need of cash.

That will allow Daniel Farke and the 49ers to demand whatever they like for the 22-year-old Dutch star, and if the player isn’t going to push for an exit then it’s fair to say they would be happy to keep him.

There is still a long way to go in the window, but the further down the line we get the more stubborn Leeds will get for any deal so Rennes should probably move quickly if they want to get it done.

In other Leeds news, the club want to sign a Premier League winger on loan amid interest from other Championship sides.
