Rennes set for multi-million signing on Monday with Leeds United ace Glen Kamara also wanted

Leeds United may still lose Glen Kamara to Stade Rennais even if the French club capture their new midfield target, according to L’Equipe.

The French publication shared an article [11 July] reporting that whilst Rennes are edging closer to signing Danish midfielder Albert Gronbaek for a fee of around £10m, the Ligue 1 club are still interested in a bid for Kamara.

Gronbaek is being pursued by the French club to replace Enzo Le Fee, who has joined Roma, and could be unveiled as soon as Monday.

Leeds signed Joe Rothwell on loan from AFC Bournemouth on Thursday night, which could pave the way for the Finland international’s departure from Elland Road after a single season.

Kamara likely to leave Leeds United despite Rennes activity

Whilst it was considered that Rennes’ primary interest in Gronbaek would fade out the club’s move for Kamara, it appears Leeds United are still set to lose the 28-year-old.

It was reported last week that discussions between Kamara and Julian Stephan’s side had gone well, and that personal terms would not be an issue [Corriere dello Sport, 4 July].

Rennes sporting director Frederic Massara echoed that the club were very interested in bringing the former Arsenal and Rangers man to Ligue 1, but Leeds will be wanting to recoup at least the £5m fee they paid to lure him from Ibrox last year.

Rennes have signed Glen Kamara from Leeds

Kamara, who has 59 senior caps for his nation, was an important figure for the Whites last term having played 42 matches for Daniel Farke’s side in all competitions.

Having brought in Rothwell but lost Archie Gray and Marc Roca, Leeds remain in the market for midfield reinforcements.
