Reliable journo details Bielsa stance on Tyler Roberts future at Leeds amid major interest
Marcelo Bielsa does not want to let Tyler Roberts leave Leeds United this month amid major interest from Championship clubs, according to David Anderson.
The Mirror journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Bournemouth and Derby are “among three Championship clubs keen” on signing the 21-year-old on loan.
However, the Daily Mail has also reported that Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff and Preston have also made their interest in the Wales international known.
Loan will do wonders for Roberts
Since winning promotion to the Premier League, Roberts has struggled for regular game-time at Elland Road with the ex-West Brom attacker starting just twice in the league.
He’s played in just two of Leeds’ last nine top-flight fixtures and wasn’t in the squad at all for the defeat to Tottenham last week.
Roberts’ lack of game-time isn’t anything new, either.
Last season, he did play a role in Leeds winning the Championship title but was by no means a first-choice player for Bielsa with the Welshman earning only 12 league starts.
We can understand why Bielsa would want to keep Roberts as an option because he’s versatile enough to play on the wing, in the centre of midfield or as a striker. But Leeds do have plenty of options in those areas now.
For the good of his career, we’d like to see Roberts get sent out on loan but only if he’s going to join a team where he’s playing regularly.
Out of the teams reportedly interested in him, you would imagine that he’s most likely to get game-time at Sheffield Wednesday due to their lowly league position.
The fact that a move to Hillsborough would mean he can go out on loan without relocated could be a good idea too.
