Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross has said that Leeds United are "serious" about a move for Brentford striker Ollie Watkins and that he will be "amazed" if they don't table a bid for him.

In a transfer Q&A, Cross also said that if he was available for £18m – after the BBC reported about a buy-out clause being activated – it would be a "snip" for a player of his ability.

Brentford missed out on promotion after losing to Fulham in the play-off final on Tuesday night and it means some of their star players could be on the move.

Writing on Leeds Live, Cross said, "They [Leeds] are serious on Watkins.

"I don't know for certain what the situation is with Watkin's transfer clause, but many reputable outlets are reporting that is the case.

"If true it's a snip for a player of his calibre in the current market. Leeds like him and I'd be amazed if they don't bid."

Brentford seem to be resigned to losing Watkins and the buy-out clause makes it even more likely that he'll make the move up to the Premier League this summer.

Leeds won't be the only club after him. The Telegraph has claimed that Aston Villa are interested, too.

The Sun's Alan Nixon has claimed that both Watkins and Benrahma will go this summer. In a tweet he put out on Wednesday, Nixon said that both players have known it would happen if Brentford weren't promoted.

He said, "It's all been thought out."

Of all the strikers that Leeds have been linked with, Watkins is the one we want. If Leeds get him for anywhere near to £18m, we'll be delighted but we think the interest in him could force the price up.
