Red Bull want to sign Leeds United star Archie Gray for RB Leipzig with major Elland Road sale needed

Red Bull want to take Archie Gray to RB Leipzig with Leeds United in need of a “major” sale this summer, according to HITC.

Writing on their website (28 June), the news outlet report that the Whites are keen to keep hold of the 18-year-old but a move to the Bundesliga is on the cards with Borussia Dortmund pushing hard and Bayern Munich also interested.

But after Red Bull purchased a minority stake in the club earlier this summer [The Athletic, 30 May], they now want to take Gray to Germany with one of their other clubs in a deal that could help Leeds’ financial issues.

Red Bull take advantage of Leeds United issues for Archie Gray deal?

The financial situation at Elland Road has been exaggerated, but there are still sales required and expected this summer and Gray is one of the club’s top assets.

Crysencio Summerville is also expected to leave the club [Phil Hay, 27 May], but with the Dutch winger’s contract expiring in two years it means the value he can bring is lower than would initially be expected.

Gray however penned a new contract last season and at just 18 is expected to bring in heaps of interest and cash should he leave.

Premier League clubs have shown interest too but Leeds would surely prefer to move him abroad if he is to leave so they don’t have to play against him too much in the future, and Red Bull would at least keep him in the ‘family’.

There’s a long way to go in the summer transfer window and the line of communication between Red Bull and the 49ers will always be open, so this is something that could explode at any moment.

In other Leeds news, one player “certainly” won’t play Championship football with the Whites next season.
