Real Betis want to sign Junior Firpo on loan from Leeds United in January

Real Betis are pursuing a loan deal with an option to buy for Leeds left-back Junior Firpo in January, according to reliable journalist Santi Aouna.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (28 November), the Foot Mercato journalist reports that the La Liga club want to sign the Spain international on loan with an option to buy in January.

Firpo wants to leave Elland Road in the winter and Betis want to bring him in on an initial loan deal, just like they did with Marc Roca in the summer.

Huge

It’s not really a shock after all the noise from the summer window in fairness, but it’s a huge blow if Junior Firpo now leaves at the first opportunity.

Firpo looked set to leave in the summer before suffering an injury that put an end to that, and after finally recovering from that problem he has come back into the side under Daniel Farke.

So for him to hop up and try to leave immediately after that would be a real shame and a big blow, because his attacking style from left-back suits Farke’s style down to the ground and would really help the club in terms of getting promotion back to the Premier League.

A loan deal means we wouldn’t get any money in to replace him, with the full-back positions already quite short in terms of depth.

Agreeing a fee in advance of the summer only makes sense if it is an obligation rather than an option, but it looks likely that Firpo won’t be at Elland Road once February rolls around.
