‘Rather play the kitman’: Manager slams Leeds-linked ace axed from side, clubs in 8-figure talks
Daniel Farke has slammed Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell after leaving him out of the Norwich squad on Sunday, amid interest from Leeds United.
The player has been linked with a move to Leeds, with PA Sport reporting the two clubs are in talks over a £15m move.
Norwich lost 1-0 to Bournemouth on Sunday and an angry Farke kicked off in comments after the game.
As quoted by Norwich journalist David Freezer, Farke said, “I just hope this bloody transfer window will close soon.”
He said he wasn’t happy with the “mental state” of Cantwell and said he’d rather play the kitman than a player who wasn’t fully focused on Norwich.
He went even further on Cantwell, saying, “I love this player but his last league goal was a long time ago and his last assist was 40 games ago. You have to show you are switched on and fully focused.”
Man management
How do you get a player who’s had his head turned, focused back on the club that pays his wages?
If you’re Farke, you point out his deficiencies. We’re not completely convinced that throwing a young player under the bus is the right way to go about things but Farke is obviously angry at what’s going on.
Norwich have had a mixed start to the season, winning one, losing one and drawing one, and having a window still open when the season has started isn’t ideal for clubs like this.
Recently relegated, with players looking to get back into the Premier League, even if there’s no genuine interest, there will be plenty of rumour and speculation.
According to Athletic journalist Phil Hay, Leeds have contacted Norwich and Cantwell does want to make his way back to the top flight.
